Wordpress Plugins - What Are They, How Do They Work, And What Can They Do For Me?

If you are in business for yourself and you want to get business from the internet you know that you are going to need a blog. In the past people used to just put up static websites and hope for the best. Now days people know that it doesn't work to do that anymore the only way you are going to get positive traffic to your site is to have good content that is constantly getting better. That is the reason a Wordpress blog is your best option. There are several blogging platforms available. By far Wordpress is the best, the plugins available for Wordpress are one of the reasons it is the best.

What are plugins, I mean that is a weird name if you are not familiar with the internet culture. A plugin is basically something that is an add on to the basic structure and functionality of the Wordpress platform. In its most basic form it is a set of instructions that Wordpress follows to achieve a certain task. If you want you can think of it like a little program on your computer that does something special for you.

Plug ins are really easy to use and that is one of the reasons that I always set up my clients with a host of them to maximize the benefits of their blog. There are thousands and thousands of plug ins available for the Wordpress platform, some cost money, most are totally free for you to use. When you are in the dashboard of your blog all you have to do is click on the "Add New" link under plugins and you will be taken to a place that you can search for plugins. Once you find them all you have to do is click to download and then to install. So literally in three clicks you can have some tools for your blog that will make you more productive.

As of me writing this article there are 13,717 plugins available from Wordpress. There are more if you take into account people who do not post their plugins to the Wordpress site. That being said you can imagine there are plugins for almost anything you need your blog to do. There are plugins that help you to create memberships sites, plugins for content management, plugins for easy integration with Twitter and Facebook.
